Champions League: UEFA changes venue for RB Leipzig vs Liverpool

UEFA have switched Liverpool’s Champions League visit to Leipzig to a neutral venue, the UK Mirror reports.

The German government has refused to allow any exemptions for elite athletes, to a mandate banning entry on all arrivals into the country, from areas affected by COVID-19 mutations until at least February 17.

That means the Premier League champions will be banned from flying in Germany on February 16, the original date scheduled for the first leg.

UEFA have now named Buadpest’s Puskas Arena as their mandated alternative venue.

However, they have given Leipzig dispensation to find an option acceptable to the governing body and the German government.

That means Liverpool will have to wait to learn where they will be travelling for the game, with the Reds due to fly in just 11 days time.

Sheffield United vs Chelsea: Tuchel gives injury update on Thiago Silva ahead of EPL clash

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, has provided the latest injury update on Thiago Silva ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Sheffield United on Sunday.

Silva sustained a thigh injury during Chelsea’s 1-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night.

The Brazilian defender has been a key player at the heart of Chelsea’s defence, but the 36-year-old was forced off the pitch after just 36 minutes of the London derby with an injury.

Speaking after the game, Tuchel said that Silva might not recover in time for the Sheffield clash this weekend.

“It will be very tight for Sunday’s game, only two days recovery,” Tuchel told Chelsea’s official website.

“It is too early to give a diagnosis because I saw him very briefly with a big strap around his muscle.

“We will have to wait until tomorrow so we can confirm it, but I think for Sunday he is a big doubt.”

Tuchel’s men are currently in the 6th position on the Premier League table with 36 points from 22 points.

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho, has named four players that would have helped their attack during the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Thursday.

Jorginho scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, to ensure Thomas Tuchel’s unbeaten start as Blues boss continues.

After the game, Mourinho bemoaned the absence of captain Harry Kane, midfielders Dele Alli and Lo Celso and full back Sergio Reguillon.

“(Sergio) Reguilon means something for our attacking football. Harry Kane means something to our attacking football.

“Giovani Lo Celso means something and a good Dele Alli that we haven’t had yet also means something to that.

“It also is about not having the players to change things. It’s also about the confidence,” Mourinho told BT Sport.
