Davido’s “If” Sells 500,000 Copies In The U.S, Earns Gold Certification

Davido‘s 2017 hit single “If” has been certified Gold in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

The Afropop song which was released on February 17, 2017, has sold 500,000 copies in the U.S to earn the certification.

An excited Davido shared the news on his Twitter page: “My 2nd Gold record !!! Oh God I am Grateful !! The Only two Afro beats solo singles to go Gold in the USA in Afro beats history !! God is good !!! MORE TO COME !”

“If” and “Fall” certified Gold

“If” is Davido’s second song to get the gold certification after “Fall” which received over 40 million streams on Spotify, and has been certified gold by the RIAA and Music Canada.


“If” was certified diamond by the Recording Industry of South Africa, indicating shipments of 200,000 units. The music video for “If” was recorded in London; it was directed by Director Q and produced by Tunde Babalola. “If” won Best Pop Single and Song of the Year at The Headies 2018.

“Fall” was one of the top-100-most-Shazam-searched singles in America in January 2019 and was a top-10 record on Shazam in New York. In February 2019, it became the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history. “Fall” was ranked at number 163 on Pitchfork’s list of the 200 Best Songs of the 2010s.

Both songs were featured on Davido’s second studio album, “A Good Time.”
