Van der Sar names Ronaldo greatest player he ever played with - Daily Post Nigeria

Ajax managing director, Edwin van der Sar, on Friday named Juventus forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, as the greatest player he ever played with during his career.

Van der Sar said this while felicitating with Ronaldo, on his 36th birthday.

The former goalkeeper and Ronaldo were former teammates during their time together at Manchester United.

Van der Sar, in a tweet via his Twitter handle, also urged the Portugal captain to keep pushing.

The 50-year-old tweeted, “Finally home after a tough couple of days at the office… I would like to send my birthday wishes to my friend and the greatest player I’ve ever played with: @Cristiano. 36 years old? Wow… Keep pushing, legend.”

Meanwhile, UEFA has since celebrated Ronaldo as he turns 36 years today.

Liverpool vs Man City: Guardiola slams Klopp over ‘two-week brea

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has said he is surprised at Jurgen Klopp’s claim that they had a two-week break.

Klopp made the remark while discussing his team’s poor form.

Consecutive home defeats for the Premier League champions has seen them fall seven points behind the leaders City.

Klopp stated that they had “not had a break” while adding that “City had two weeks off for Covid reasons”.

Guardiola appeared agitated that the German brought up the topic ahead of their trip to Anfield and suggested that mind-games were at play.

“When I see Jurgen I will tell him how many weeks we were off,’ Guardiola said.

“I’m surprised. I didn’t think Jurgen was that type of manager.

“Jurgen has to see the calendar again.

“He knows it’s not true, come on.

“Sometimes people do it for the purpose… I did not think he was that type of guy.

“Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe it was a misunderstanding.”

The Premier League moved City’s trip to Everton on December 28, just four hours before kick-off.

Guardiola’s men returned to training two days later with a heavily depleted squad.

City however won at Chelsea on January 3 without seven first-team regulars, some missing with injuries.

They have won the following nine matches in all competitions.

Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, has provided the latest update on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, Mathew Ryan and Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon at Villa Park.

Arteta’s side head to the game following 2-1 defeat against Wolves in their last fixture on Tuesday.

Providing an update on his players, Arteta was quoted by Arsenal’s official website as saying, “Mat has not been available to train yet, and Alex is available, so we will have the choice between the two of them for the weekend.

“If Mat is able to train, and they are both fit, we will have a decision to make. If Mat is not fit, obviously Alex will be in goal.

“Well Auba is available, he played a few minutes after ten days of not doing much and hopefully in the next two days he feels good, and he is available to contribute to the team.

“Even when we made decisions not to play him [Pepe], he kept working hard. He has improved in a lot of areas and has been much more consistent for 90 minutes.

“He’s a threat at the moment because he’s been scoring goals, he’s been assisting players, he’s been a real threat. He needs to continue doing that.”

The kick-off time for the match is 1: 30 pm.
